Becker morgan group’s residential studio excels with site-specific, client-centered architecture that balances coastal innovation with enduring characteristics
Rooted in Eastern Shore living, Chris Pattey is an informative design voice and pioneer of beachside architecture along the Maryland and Delaware coasts—and beyond, from the Carolinas and Florida to locations across the country.
Headquartered in Salisbury, MD, Becker Morgan Group operates from inside a historically preserved building on West Main Street, serving as a visual mainstay and nod to the firm’s commitment to the community.
Chris, Associate AIA and Residential Practice Area Leader at Becker Morgan, has been on the front lines of the evolving coastal development along the Shore for more than 35 years. His career at Becker Morgan began in 1987 with an internship in college. Today, his thoughtful beach-house designs punctuate the landscape with custom homes that embody what living on the Eastern Shore represents.
Site-specific design is crucial.
“Not only are there easements and regulations to navigate, but there are also space constraints now that the Eastern Shore has grown into a popular beach destination for full- and part-time residents,” Chris points out.
Customization looks different for every homeowner, adds Jason Pearce, AIA, LEED AP and Senior Associate and Architect at Becker Morgan. “Regardless of the style, we put our heart and soul into accomplishing an architectural design that is detailed and creative and that stands out,” he says.

Trust in Timelessness
The firm has grown exponentially over the years, yet the residential design studio experience remains highly personalized, collaborative and approachable.
Expertise and trust are the intangibles Chris and Jason deliver.
Their distinct perspectives and design approaches to coastal architecture accommodate clients’ varying individual tastes. “A good design doesn’t need a stylistic label,” says Chris, relating the significance of architecture that is on point today and intended to sustain its relevance for generations.
“Timelessness is the defining element of design,” he emphasizes. “And we also want to address gravitational pulls from clients to appeal to their aesthetic preferences and build an environment that’s suited to them functionally and personally.”
Jason’s tenure spans 30 years, and the team works in tandem to offer clients distinct designs that speak to a diverse portfolio of work. This ranges from clean-lined modern to reclaimed barn designs, East Coast traditional and spaces enveloped in glass.

Design, Well-Traveled
With their overlapping design philosophies and individual touches, Chris and Jason have defined the Becker Morgan residential studio’s forward-thinking reputation during the past three decades. They’ve established the firm’s legacy as an innovative, full-service collaborator that is shaping the built environment along the Eastern Shore.
Meanwhile, their truly personal approach has carried their work far beyond beachfront sites to grand estates with multiple buildings, multi-generational horse farms, riverfront enclaves and more.
Its broad project portfolio speaks to Becker Morgan residential studio’s expansive capabilities.
Chris reiterates, “Good design is not constrained to a category. Outstanding architecture is functional, beautiful and unique.” CS
