The couple wear many company hats as business owners. Tomie Kay credits her work ethic to her loving and supportive parents, Gary and Sharon Layton. Growing up in Sussex County, she learned from a very young age the importance of responsibility, productivity, organizational skills, timeliness, and that if you want more from life, you need to work harder.
Family and faith have always come first for Tomie Kay. In addition to being a loving wife to her soulmate, Tom, she is a devoted mother of two and doting grandmother to two grandchildren. Tomie Kay’s commitment to her community has always been a priority in her life as well. Prior to starting Morse Roofing and Siding with Tom, Tomie Kay worked as an independent insurance adjuster for 10 years for Fortune 500 companies. She handled over 1,000 claims all over the country. She credits this time for helping her gain unique insights into the construction industry.

She is a CertainTeed Master Craftsman Shingle Applicator and possesses the rare and prestigious award of CertainTeed Wizard. She is also a Certified TAMKO Mastercraft Pro Contractor, and holds VSI Certification as a vinyl siding installer.

TIPS FROM TOMIE KAY
What advice can you offer readers who are contemplating a new roof?
• Shop around and compare your options before you finally choose your contractor.
• Reach out to your friends and neighbors and ask who they would use or recommend.
• Do your research. Check online with the Better Business Bureau and on Google.
• Obtain detailed estimates showing quality materials and the scope of work from each contractor. Make sure your materials are of a good quality and ask questions if you receive an estimate that is lower than the others. The contractor with the lower estimate could have a different scope of work, but additional funds may be needed to complete the project in whole.
• Most important, your focus should be on using quality materials, installed by a quality contractor who is properly insured and has all the required licenses to complete your project.
What are the latest trends and industry technologies?
• Drone technology is now commonly used for precise measurements and photos. These aid in creating quick project design options from which the customer can choose.
