For Jim and Jan Perdue, their commitment to philanthropy is not built on accolades, but on deep-rooted care for their community. They were humbled to learn they were being recognized by Coastal Style magazine readers as Best Philanthropists in Wicomico County.
This recognition reflects not only their personal generosity; it represents a legacy and commitment at Perdue Farms to giving back to the communities where the company’s associates live, work, and raise their families.
It’s also a reflection of how the company lives its value of stewardship.
“This honor really belongs to the thousands of Perdue associates and partners who support and strengthen our communities every day in Wicomico County and across our company footprint,” said Jim Perdue, third-generation chairman of the family-owned, 105-year-old company founded in Salisbury.
Giving back has always been important to Jim and Jan and has long been a part of the Perdue Farms’ culture. That tradition continues today through the company’s “Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors®” outreach to improve quality of life and build strong communities.
The philanthropic contributions of the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation help strengthen communities by focusing on education, agriculture, the environment, health and social services, public safety and fighting hunger and poverty.
The company helps millions of its neighbors struggling with food insecurity through ongoing protein donations to local food banks and pantries, including through the Maryland Food Bank in Salisbury, where Jim and Jan volunteer their time.
The company culture also inspires associates to give back through the power of volunteerism and engage in causes that support their neighbors in ways meaningful to them.
“My grandfather started this company with a simple goal: to do right by people,” said Jim. “That spirit of responsibility and compassion has guided us for more than a century. Giving back isn’t something we do because it looks good—it’s something we do because it’s the right thing to do.”
