Rehoboth Beach area artists paint works for a special event in Italy, which will be on display October 12 at Gallery One
Greve in Chianti, Italy, is the “Sister City” of Rehoboth Beach. The two cities have been celebrating that relationship since 2010. Early in 2024, Greve in Chianti’s Tourism Director asked Rehoboth Beach’s Pat Coluzzi if Rehoboth Beach area artists could participate in an event commemorating the 500-year celebration of the town’s most famous explorer, Giovanni da Verrazzano, the first European to explore the Atlantic Coast of North America between Florida and New Brunswick in 1524, including New York Bay.

Sixteen local artists agreed—and they painted scenes of Greve in Chianti from photographs. Pat and her partner, Gallery One artist Dale Sheldon, delivered 22 paintings to the Museo di San Francesco’s curator in Greve in Chianti. “Giovanni di Verrazzano 2024: An artistic bridge between Greve and the USA,” was held April 14 and attended by members of a Delaware delegation.
On Oct. 12 from 4-6 p.m., Gallery One’s reception in Ocean View will further celebrate the relationship, showcasing the 22 paintings that were a part of the Greve in Chianti show. The public is welcomed. CS
