The second-generation family practice, Jose F. Alvarado and Associates, has an expanding office delivering evidence-based pediatric care in a caring environment where providers really know their patients. “We were founded on the principle of maintaining a small office feeling,” says Jose E. Alvarado, MD, FAAP, who took over his late father’s practice in 2012.
Closely connected to the community, the office does so much more than practice medicine. Providers ease fears, educate patients, help them through life’s transitions and champion their wellness. To do so, appointment times are generous — and the office prides itself on running a prompt schedule to reduce waiting room time.
Last year, the practice welcomed Stacey Engster, MD, MS, FAAP, who grew up in Salisbury and Dr. Alvarado Sr. was her pediatrician. After moving away for medical training and starting a family, she returned to the area and came on board in January 2022. Her focus on clinical research and medical education is an asset to the practice.
“Pediatrics is such a rewarding field — we get to see a wide age range of patients from newborns to young adults, and we treat not just the patients, but their entire families,” Dr. Engster says.
Further expanding access to care is the addition of Kylie White, NP. After having two premature births and NICU experiences, she decided to become a nurse practitioner and focus on pediatrics. She completed clinical studies at the practice, and her children also see Dr. Alvarado.
Joyce Blevins, CRNP, began working with Dr. Alvarado Sr. in 1997. “There is such a level of comfort and joy when you walk into a room and see parents you cared for when they were children and they’re coming back to see me with their babies,” she relates.
