The beauty of our coastal region is not confined to warm, summer months. Winter brings a stark beauty all its own. Brutally cold temperatures formed icicles on the rocks of a jetty at Cape Henlopen State Park following a high-tide wave-splash. Catching the rising sun from within the jetty rocks at Herring Point was a unique and beautiful scene.

For many resort visitors who only see our beach towns during summer, snowstorms here are hard to imagine. They’re mostly familiar with hot, crowded beaches and people-lined boardwalks in search of lunch and a refreshing, cold beverage — not that same setting with six inches of fresh snow covering them. This departing storm and accompanying breaking sky left a unique and vacant scene at the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, where the iconic Dolle’s Candyland sign once stood. CS
