Cancer care that focuses on the whole patient
At Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach, its oncology team works to treat the whole person. By using an integrated cancer-care approach, patient-centered care extends well beyond the treatment options. This approach means not just focusing on the cancer but instead on creating wellness — physically, emotionally and spiritually. The focus is on the whole patient, including nutrition, exercise and stress management, as well as considerations of beliefs and attitudes, social support, creative thinking and spirituality within cancer care.
“As we prepare to expand our services at our new South Coastal Health Campus, near Millville, this same whole-person care will be practiced,” said Barry Hamp, Executive Director, Oncology Services. “Patients are active participants in their own health and healing, and at the helm of the multidisciplinary team.”
Beebe’s multidisciplinary team includes a dietitian, social worker, integrative health and wellness coaches and navigators.
“Navigators are an important role on our care team, as they address barriers patients may come across and work to coordinate care,” Hamp said.
In addition to whole-person care, patients can also reap the benefits of chairside integrative health modalities, including aromatherapy, therapeutic touch, chair yoga, meditation and guided imagery. Both locations also offer valet parking and transportation for those who qualify.
