As the lead designer at Creative Concepts, Gail Lednum is frequently tasked with transforming ideas and visions of her clients into breathtaking realities. Her award-winning talents extend beyond the choices of fabrics, color palates and furniture collections as she guides homeowners though selections of flooring, tile, lighting and kitchen-and-bath fixtures. Lednum then oversees the installation of everything, while additionally managing subcontractors, deadlines and schedules.

“Clients place a lot of responsibility and trust in my care to design their homes” Gail said. “It’s a huge commitment, both from a financial and longevity perspective, so it’s my job to create something that is timeless. My goal is that my clients are happy living there today and 15 years from now.”

One of her latest projects is a South Bethany residence that was in the framing stages when she met homeowners Jim and Hanne Crystal. The Crystals were referred to Gail by a local Realtor who worked with Gail previously. “We had multiple in-depth conversations, so I could learn more about their likes and dislikes, their level of entertaining and if visiting children and grandchildren needed to be included in their home plans,” Gail said. “A benefit of our large showroom is that we were able to see multiple styles, manufacturers and fabrics we showcase, allowing us to immediately identify items that matched the collective conceptual vision for their home.”

Gail transformed all of her gathered information into an impressive design-plan that included a variety of floor-plan concepts, complete with furniture packages and accompanying space-management perspectives, flooring and finish recommendations, door styles, multiple performance fabric selections and suggested color palates.

Thrilled with her presentation, the Crystals commissioned Gail and Creative Concepts to lead the design of their beach home. Together, they traveled to various galleries, to make creative and unique selections, including Ferguson Kitchen & Bath in Annapolis, The Tile Market in Lewes and OC Floor & Home Gallery in West Ocean City. Complementing tones of grays, whites and creams combine to create a sophisticated coastal atmosphere throughout the home, with accent colors of navy, chocolate and turquoise purposefully placed to provide additional warmth.

“It’s a very soothing and appealing palate,” Gail said. “There is also flexibility in the design, as well, which adds to its longevity. We collectively wanted a welcoming and user-friendly design, and I believe we accomplished that goal.”

Family owned and operated for 46 years, by three generations of the Lednum family, Creative Concepts features an extensive selection of quality furniture, accessories and window fashions at their Ocean View and Lewes showrooms. Gail utilized serviceable upholstery options from Larren Grey and refined furniture combinations from Lexington, Bungalow Five, Bernhardt and Lane Venture. As a Hunter Douglas Centurion Gallery dealer, Gail had access to the renowned window treatment company’s latest styles and incorporated attractive and functional selections throughout the residence. She also selectively incorporated shore-inspired artwork and accessories to provide additional points of interest, color and style. “This is a design that you could take anywhere, north or south,” Gail said. “It’s light, airy and inviting.”

As this nine-month project neared completion, Gail said she couldn’t help but feel the excitement that accompanies the completion of each of her home designs and credits her support team that also plays an integral role in each project.

“It’s a long process, moving through the various phases of construction, and each step builds your excitement because you can start to see the design vision come to life. In the end, it’s extremely fulfilling to have the ability to satisfy our clients and have the end result exceed any expectation that we ever could have imagined. The ultimate reward, in addition to developing a professional relationship with my clients, is that we become personal friends, too.”
