2019 Healthcare Experts: CoreLife Delmarva

In the few short months since she joined CoreLife Delmarva, Mildred “Micki” Neuhauser has dropped 23 pounds.

“My experience has been excellent,” she said. “I never realized just how easy it could be to lose weight. It’s not a fad diet; it’s a way of life.”

CoreLife is an innovative preventive healthcare company focusing on overweight and obese individuals. Each center features a unique model that combines professionals in medicine, nutrition, exercise and behavior, all located in a convenient and compassionate environment.

The inspiration for the business came from owner Sean Kostkowski’s personal experiences. Growing up, his brother struggled with weight loss and was often given the same advice: Eat less, exercise more.

“That’s not a realistic solution for a lot of people,” he said. “I wondered, What if there were a place that could create a personalized, holistic plan for each patient, but that kind of place simply didn’t exist.”

In 2012, CoreLife was born.

Kostkowski now operates 19 locations, with plans to open 50 more in 2019. These new facilities will span the East Coast, from Annapolis, Frederick, Columbia and Bel Air, MD, to Alabama and North Carolina. On Delmarva, Peninsula Regional Health System is the exclusive partner.

Each CoreLife facility is between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet and features a medical office staffed by licensed medical practitioners, registered dietitians and private fitness studios with exercise equipment and dedicated trainers.

Every patient has an initial consultation to assess his or her goals, sleep, stress, etc. Patients have bloodwork and metabolic testing and then meet with a provider who conducts a physical and develops a care plan. From there, patients meet with a registered dietician who creates an individualized meal plan. Appointments are scheduled weekly and always involve consultations with a medical provider and a dietician.

“This is not just some fly-by-night weight-loss program; it’s true healthy living,” said Rhonda Snyder, who has been a member of CoreLife for about four months. “They are helping you make changes that you can live with forever.

Snyder, who sees the number on the scale drop at every visit, says the staff not only gives you the tools you need to succeed, but they offer knowledge and emotional support every step of the way.

“They give you contact information for the doctor, dietician and all of the support people, so you can call or email them whenever you need to — and they get back to you right away,” she said. “I feel like I have a whole team of people working with me, and it works because I don’t want to disappoint the team.”
