With a bona fide track record of first-rate legal skill and superior customer service, the people of Robertson & Robertson are likely to be the best friends you could have in the event of a personal injury

It’s a scenario we all dread, yet one that happens to so many of us during our lifetime. You’re in your car, attending to the everyday errands and responsibilities that make your life yours. Then, when you least expect it, you are injured in an accident caused by an inattentive, negligent or drunk driver.

Navigating your way through what follows — dealing with multiple claims adjusters, medical bills and providers, car repairs and lost time from work — can be nothing less than a nightmare of aggravation. That’s why the need for a skilled advocate who is experienced at handling these issues is paramount.

“We apply our extensive experience to shepherd our clients’ insurance claims and help them get back to some degree of normality in their lives,” explains attorney Scott Robertson of Robertson & Robertson, P.A. “People often think about hiring an attorney to secure a fair and just settlement. And I believe we do that as well as anyone. But, equally important, we make a stressful and confusing process much less burdensome. Our clients may rest assured that their insurance claims are being handled professionally and correctly, without mistakes or surprises.”

The Robertsons handle many details in their clients’ claims, such as ensuring that all available insurance coverages are coordinated to pay for medical care on a timely basis. This is critical, since the at-fault driver’s insurance company will not pay any medical bills until a settlement is finalized.

The firm’s attorneys and staff average over 18 years of experience and have impressive qualifications. Scott Robertson spent many years working for insurance companies defending injury lawsuits.
His wife and law partner, Laura Robertson, is an experienced attorney who also practices personal injury. The firm’s paralegal, David Graybill, was an insurance claims adjuster for 24 years prior to joining the firm. The firm’s legal assistants are all experienced with the insurance claims process.

The Robertsons emphasize the importance of contacting their firm as early as possible after an accident in order to avoid the mistakes that can cause an insurance company to unfairly minimize or decline an injury claim. For example, statements given to an adjuster can sometimes be misconstrued to deny liability. This is especially true in Maryland, where an insurance company can outright deny a claim if they determine that the injured party was even 1% at fault.

“Some people wait until they get an unfair settlement offer to call us,” said Scott. “But what we really want is to organize, document and advocate from the beginning, to avoid an unfair claims evaluation in the first place. We can do a great job in the courtroom, but more important, we can usually help our clients resolve their injury case fairly and without the additional stress and burden of a lawsuit.”

But when an insurance company refuses to be fair and reasonable, the firm will not hesitate to enforce its clients’ legal rights in the legal system. In fact, Scott Robertson has been the lead counsel in more than 150 personal injury trials over his career.

The Robertsons feel their law firm’s reputation as “tough but professional” is a benefit to its clients: “While we are tough negotiators, we work professionally and cooperatively with the insurance companies until and unless they are unfair to our clients,” said Scott. “But we do have a reputation of not caving into an unfair offer.

Eastern Shore natives Scott & Laura Robertson have been recognized many times for their professional and civic leadership. A past president of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Scott has achieved the rare AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell for both legal skill and ethics, considered by many to be the gold standard of its kind. Among other honors, Scott is a recipient of the Shea Professionalism Award from the Maryland Bar Foundation, which is only awarded to one attorney each year.

Laura has been honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for her pro bono work. She has been involved in several community leadership roles and is the current chairperson of the Safe Sanctuaries Committee at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The Robertsons are also very proud of the responsiveness of their office. “We often hear our new clients say that it was difficult and frustrating to try to get a claims adjuster on the phone,” said Laura. “They tell us that calling our office is a refreshing experience.”

Scott bemoans the public perception that has been generated in large part by unprofessional lawyer advertising. “The vast majority of our clients just want to be treated fairly. They hire us because they know we will work diligently to handle the hassle of the claims process so that they can focus on getting better and getting on with their lives,” explains Scott.

Laura adds: “Ethics and professionalism are important to us, and I think that is reflected in our reputation. We are a firm that you can feel comfortable recommending to your friends and family.”
