Quality merchandise, great prices and even better customer service. Those are the principles that Joe Kendall has lived by during his nearly 20 years in the furniture business. From the time he began working as a young boy at his mother’s Frederick, Md. furniture store to his ninth year in business here on the Shore, Joe has established a reputation for providing all of the above at his Kendall Furniture stores in West Ocean City and Fenwick Island.
In 2014, he plans to raise the bar even higher by giving his customers additional options at his new stores – the Kendall Furniture Patio Center and the Kendall Furniture Outlet.
Located on Route 113 in Selbyville — in space formerly occupied by the Selbyville Pet & Garden Center — Joe has created another impressive shopping experience for local residents and second homeowners on the Shore. Joe’s mother, June, a 30-year furniture-store veteran herself, will run the new locations with her poodle, Gigi, at her side.
The site will also serve as Kendall Furniture’s new corporate headquarters and warehouse facility.
While Kendall Furniture in West Ocean City and Fenwick Island will continue to carry the top-quality furniture and accessories that discerning consumers covet, the new Kendall Furniture Outlet will offer bargain hunters those rare finds at great prices.
“Because of our size, low overhead and purchasing volume, we will offer sleeper sofas that normally sell for $1,099 and $999 for 20 percent less at our clearance center,” Joe said. “Cottage-style five-piece dinettes that you’d see for $600 and $700 will be priced at $399 and $499.”
There’s also a sizeable area that has been transformed into a bedding and mattress center.
“My plan for this space was originally to offer a large showroom featuring scratch-and-dent items and used furniture,” Kendall continued. “Then I realized that we had a tremendous opportunity to expand our brand to include a patio-furniture store. Our new location now features an incredible outdoor area that includes a 3,000 sq. ft. covered porch to showcase the very best in outdoor living.”
Kendall is making the area even more inviting by hiring Wes Novelli of Hardscapes, Inc. to create a large pergola, simulating the kind of backyard landscapes commonly found on the Shore.
The new venture makes Kendall's the largest patio store on Delmarva, featuring the latest collections from Telescope, Ebel, Breezesta, Panama Jack, Tropitone and Lloyd Flanders, just to name a few
“A lot of our products are American-made, and we have the space to showcase and stock them onsite,” offered Joe, “so there will be a lot cash-and-carry from our new location. There’s no longer a need to place an order from a catalog and then wait weeks, or even months, for your outdoor furniture.”
That’s not to suggest that you can’t place a custom order, however. Kendall’s new patio center will offer all of their manufacturers’ products in a wide array of fabric selections. So, if you love a set they have in stock but want the cushions in a different color or pattern, no problem.
The Kendall Furniture website will soon offer customers the ability to browse the selections of all three locations.
